Felzenszwalb-Baum-Welch: Event Detection by Changing Appearance
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a method which can detect events in videos by modeling the change in appearance of the event participants over time. This method makes it possible to detect events which are characterized not by motion, but by the changing state of the people or objects involved. This is accomplished by using object detectors as output models for the states of a hidden Markov model (HMM). The method allows an HMM to model the sequence of poses of the event participants over time, and is effective for poses of humans and inanimate objects. The ability to use existing object-detection methods as part of an event model makes it possible to leverage ongoing work in the object-detection community. A novel training method uses an EM loop to simultaneously learn the temporal structure and object models automatically, without the need to specify either the individual poses to be modeled or the frames in which they occur. The E-step estimates the latent assignment of video frames to HMM states, while the M-step estimates both the HMM transition probabilities and state output models, including the object detectors, which are trained on the weighted subset of frames assigned to their state. A new dataset was gathered because little work has been done on events characterized by changing object pose, and suitable datasets are not available. Our method produced results superior to that of comparison systems on this dataset.

Comparing the Bidirectional Baum-Welch Algorithm and the Baum-Welch Algorithm on Regular Lattice
A profile hidden Markov model (PHMM) is widely used in assigning protein sequences to protein families. In this model, the hidden states only depend on the previous hidden state and observations are independent given hidden states. In other words, in the PHMM, only the information of the left side of a hidden state is considered. However, it makes sense that considering the information of the b...

متن کاملEvolving Hidden Markov Models For Network Anomaly Detection
This paper reports the results of a system that performs network anomaly detection through the use of Hidden Markov Models (HMMs). The HMMs used to detect anomalies are designed and trained using Genetic Algorithms (GAs). The use of GAs helps automating the use of HMMs, by liberating users from the need of statistical knowledge, assumed by software that trains HMMs from data. The number of stat...
متن کاملVideo Action Recognition Based on Hidden Markov Model Combined with Particle Swarm
This paper covers a novel learning algorithm for a HMM (Hidden Markov Model) based on PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) is addressed, and a new video action recognition approach is proposed. Firstly, we extract the features of the action's trajectories from each of the target objects. Then, we compare them with the semantic event probability produced in the HMM. Secondly, we improve the HMM by ...
متن کاملFrequency-domain force measurements for discrete event contact recognition
Discrete event recognition based on force measurements in the frequency-domain is presented. The force signals arise from interaction between the workpiece and the environment in a planar assembly task. The discrete events are modeled as Hidden Markov Models (HMMs), where the models are trained oo-line with the Baum-Welch re-estimation algorithm. After the HMMs have been trained, we use them on...
